SHILLONG: The NEHU Students’ Union has expressed its disappointment in the interference of the Dean of Students’ Welfare (DSW) of NEHU, H Kayang, in the ongoing process of the NEHU Students’ Union elections for the term 2017-18.
In a statement, the students’ union alleged that Kayang, who is supposed to be an impartial and neutral official of the University, has actively campaigned and used unbecoming and communal language to influence the outcome of the elections.
“We, as the students’ union of NEHU have our differences with the administration on several issues which plague the University. But we do not believe that the officials or the administration should obstruct or interfere in the democratic process of student affairs,” the union said.
It also urged the university authorities as well as the UGC and the Ministry of Human Resource Development to look into the matter and take action.
