SHILLONG: There was unprecedented security check on the occasion of World Tourism Day at State Central Library on Wednesday.
Journalists were also not spared and even the purse of a reporter was checked by a lady police before entering the hall.
The lady police, after going through the contents of the bag, went a step further to take the purse and check the contents of the purse.
On consulting a senior advocate over the incident, he said the act was uncalled for. “They cannot go overboard as to go into personal belongings. This amounts to invading the privacy of a person especially of a woman,” the advocate said.
Prior to attending the state programme, the reporter covered the National Legal Services Authority’s regional meet of the State Legal Services Authorities (North Eastern Region) at State Convention Center.
However, no problem was faced at the State Convention Center as the bag was scanned outside the venue. There were no strict security checks even during the visit of the central ministers to the state.
Though at times, bags are checked for security reasons during state functions, it was for the first time that the purse of a lady reporter was scrutinised meticulously.
