SHILLONG: The   Contractor which was implementing  Tetelia-Byrnihat railway project has formally written to the North East Frontier (NFR) expressing its inability to continue with the project.

Sources from the NFR said that the contractor wrote the letter after their equipment  had been   damaged and burnt on two occasions.

According to sources, the NFR may have to call for fresh tenders when the work resumes again.

It may be mentioned that the railway work was halted by the State Government  after the state witnessed violent protests earlier this year against the project.

Sources also informed that the matter of resuming the work was taken up for discussions on few occasion after the work was held up but everybody was tightlipped on the matter.

Meghalaya Government has made it clear that the work for the project will begin only after entry and exit points are set up in the state to check influx.
