SHILLONG: Union Minister of State for Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation and Parliamentary Affairs, Arjun Ram Meghwal has assured that all the pending projects of Meghalaya as far as water resources are concerned will be cleared within few days.
Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday on the sidelines of a mega exhibition-cum-seminar on `March of Parliamentary Democracy and the Constitution of India’, Meghwal said that he had reviewed all the projects of water resources in Meghalaya which are pending approval of the Centre.
“We will also observe water week in New Delhi and many officers from here will attend the meet and so whatever pending projects are there, we will clear it and accordingly release the necessary funds within few days,” he said.
Meghwal pointed out that the Centre had made an elaborative plan to clean all the rivers in the country and many Northeastern rivers were included in the list.
“In fact North East is a focus area for us and we are regularly reminding our Ministers to come here and submit a report on what interventions are required for the development of the region,” he said.
The Meghalaya Government in order to preserve River Umshyrpi and River Wahumkhrah had submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) with an estimate of Rs 4645.817 lakh under the ‘flood control on flash flood’ long time back and the project is still awaiting the nod of the Water Resources ministry.
The Flood Management and Protection of Wahumkhrah and Umshyrpi river project was conceptualized to control frequent floods occurring in Pynthorumkhrah areas, protection of agricultural lands and control overflowing of Wahumkhrah and Umshyrpi.
