Tura human sacrifice case

From Our Correspondent

Tura: The district court in Tura on Friday morning granted police 14-day custody of the self-styled god man or tantrik whose real identity is Lokman Hakim of Kuchnimara village of Mankachar, Assam.

The tantrik is the prime accused in the gruesome murder of seven-year-old Krishna Singh whose lifeless body was found with multiple injuries inside the Praharinagar campus of the BSF in Tura on October 6 during the Durga Puja celebrations.

The tantrik was arrested on Thursday after his efforts to get anticipatory bail fell through leading to his ultimate surrender.

Efforts to nab the fake god man proved difficult for the authorities ever since an arrest warrant was issued against him. A police team that was dispatched to bring him to Tura from Mankachar town shortly after the child’s murder had to beat a hasty retreat after a mob of several hundred people gheraoed the police station and refused to allow the tantrik to be taken to Meghalaya.

Assam police passed on the information that the tantrik had fled across the border and it was only after 56 long days that Tura police could get him into custody during which time he is believed to have told authorities that he never ventured anywhere beyond Mankachar with full knowledge of the local police over there.

Besides the tantrik, two BSF jawans have been arrested for their complicity in the crime. Both jawans, Hawildar Chandrawan of 121 Bn and constable Babu Khan of 162 Bn of the BSF are currently out on bail.
