MTCWU calls off indefinite strike

 Shillong: The Meghalaya Transport Corporation Workers’ Union (MTCWU) has called off its indefinite strike on Friday after the State Government agreed to release the pending salaries of the employees and workers.

The MTCWU decided to call of the indefinite strike following their meeting with Transport Minister AT Mondal on Friday, who assured that their pending salaries for three months would be paid by Wednesday next.

K Rumnong, general secretary, MTCWU, said that the Government would pay three months’ salary (August, September and October) very soon while the salary for November and December will be released before Christmas.

Rumnong also informed that the MTCWU had submitted an official statement on their arrears to the Transport Minister who had sought one-week time to process the file before sending it to the Finance department. Rumnong, however, stressed that if the transport Minister failed to lived upto his promise within one week then they would resort to agitation again.

The MTCWU general secretary informed that besides their salary and arrears, the MTC staffs have not received benefits like children’s education expenses and festival advance for the past five years.
