Union minister Athawale to visit Meghalaya on Oct 7

SHILLONG: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment and founder-leader of Republican Party of India (A), Ramdas Bandu Athawale will make an official visit to the state on October 7 as a state guest.

This was informed by state party president, John Sohtun and state general secretary, Alfa Kharkongor said that the party has been functioning in the state for one year.

Sohtun said that there were 50 primary members in the party in the state besides there were over 300 unregistered members.

Kharkongor said that the issues plaguing the state included paucity of potable water, environmental hazards.  However, they refrained from commenting on the political issues of the state.

The Republican Party of India (RPI) was founded in September 30, 1956 and B R Ambedkar, is regarded as the founder of the party.
