New Guv takes oath of office in Hindi

SHILLONG: Ganga Prasad, a former member of the Bihar Legislative Council, was sworn in as the new governor of Meghalaya at Raj Bhavan in the city on Thursday.
The new governor took the oath in Hindi, a first in the recent past.
The oath of office and secrecy was administered by the Chief Justice of High Court of Meghalaya, Justice Dinesh Maheshwari.
Prasad was appointed by President Ram Nath Kovind on September 30.
Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, Cabinet ministers and high ranking officials from the armed forces were present at the swearing-in ceremony.
The chief minister welcomed the new governor and both asserted that they would work together for development of the state.
Prasad said Meghalaya being a culturally rich state “holds a special position in the country and it will be a pleasure to work in Meghalaya and contribute to safeguarding and promoting the rich heritage that the state offers”.
He also asserted that he would work in close coordination with the Meghalaya Government for the development of the state.
