NONGSTOIN: The HYC Rambrai Circle demanded that the state government take action against the contractors and corrupt officials who released funds without verifying the quality of construction work in the PMGSY road project implemented in Rambrai area.
Based on the RTI filed by the HYC Rambrai circle in West Khasi Hills, it was found that all the seven road projects in the area have not been started but in the report it shows that the roads are completed with black topping along with bridges.
The road projects include the 5-km road from Mawlangsu-Mawphanlur with a sanctioned amount of Rs 9.42 crore, 5 km road from Mawlangsu-Rambrai via Phudumbah worth Rs 2.40 crore, Rambrai-Nongriat road via Mawdoh worth Rs 9.39 crore, Nonglang Langpih with a distance of 5 km worth Rs 20.33 crore, the road from Nonglang village to Seinduli (1 km) with a sanctioned amount of Rs 11.17 crore and the Rambrai-Kyrshai-Chargoan road 6-10 km with a fund sanction of Rs 44.48 crore.
HYC’s general secretary Lasmanroy Pariong said the contractors completed only 20 to 30 per cent of the work and most of the projects were not even started.
“With the entire amount sanctioned for the road construction, if the contractors along with officials of the PWD completed the road project, people of Rambrai will not suffer as they do today,” Pariong said.
HYC asked PWD officials how they failed to verify the road construction before they approved the bills as the contractors prepared fake photos of the roads from other villages.
It also blamed the PWD department of negligence and corruption of government funds.
Pariong promised to follow the matter where an FIR will be filed after they found those who are involved in the PMGSY scam.
