Kolkata: Refuting the Opposition’s criticism regarding the Singur ordinance, WB CM Mamata Banerjee has hinted that state Assembly, scheduled to commence from June 24,could be convened earlier, to pass it.

‘There is much hue and cry regarding the ordinance from the Opposition terming it as unconstitutional. We may prepone the Assembly session on Monday or Tuesday to pass it ensuring its legal validity,’ the Chief Minister told a television channel Thursday night.

Banerjee exuded confidence that besides her alliance MLAs, the ordinance would be supported by Left Front allies CPI, FB and RSP members.

She alleged that the previous CPI(M)-led Left Front Government had violated all rules and regulations during its 34 years-long-old regime unconstitutionally, but, ironically, it was now emphasising on the constitutional validity.

The CM informed that the ordinance would either be notified on Monday or be tabled in the Assembly on Tuesday to seek the required support.

Referring to the Left Front’s accusation of the Darjeeling solution, Banerjee rebuked the Front saying, ‘The Left Front should have maintained silence on issues like Darjeeling, specially after its debacle in the Assembly election.’

The TMC government had promulgated an ordinance Thursday evening to reclaim thousand acres of land in Singur of which 400 acres would be returned to the unwilling farmers. (UNI)
