TURA: A woman politician aspiring to contest in the next year’s assembly elections from South Tura constituency is under police investigation for fraudulently withdrawing money to the tune of over Rupees two lakh without attending to her work as an assistant lecturer of Don Bosco College.

The accused, Mrs. Anamika Jessirella G Momin of New Tura, had joined the Higher Secondary Section of Don Bosco College in Tura as an Assistant Lecturer on September 17, 2015.

According to the complaint filed by the college with the Tura police, Momin discontinued her service without tendering any resignation or giving an intimation to the college authorities from January 31st of 2016.

However, it was detected much later that despite not returning to work she began withdrawing her monthly salary from February 1st of 2016 right up to January 31st of this year totaling an amount of Rs 2,03,280/-.

After verifying the financial records of the college, the principal-cum-secretary of Don Bosco College filed the police complaint on Monday.

“An investigation is currently underway in the case,” informed West Garo Hills SP Dr MGR Kumar.

The accused who’s planning to contest from South Tura constituency has applied for a Congress party ticket though party sources say she is unlikely to be in the reckoning following the revelation on her financial dealings.
