State TT championships concludes in Tura

TURA: Debanjan Sarker defeated Prithvi Dey 4-2 in the closely fought finals of the Men’s Singles to lift the trophy in the 35th Meghalaya State Table Tennis Championships which concluded at Indoor Sports Hall at Hawakhana in Tura on Saturday.

Trophies for Youth Boys’ Singles and Junior Boys’ Singles were lifted by Suranjit Dey while Diva Tang won both the Cadet Girls’ Singles and Sub Junior Girls’ Singles.

Other winners include, Tanushree Das Gupta (Youth Girls’ Singles), Jeff Alhamba K Marak (Cadet Boys’ Singles), Sumit Gareri (Sub Junior Boys’ Singles), Anwesha Chaudhary (Junior Girls’ Singles) and Shantanu Ghose (Veteran Men’s Singles). Diva Tang and Jeff Alhamba K Marak were awarded the most promising players.

It may be mentioned that this is the fourth time the Tura Table Tennis Association has organised the mega event.

Earlier, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Zenith Sangma who was the Chief Guest on the occasion encouraged the players to strive hard to achieve higher goals and bring laurels for the state. Sangma also highlighted the efforts made by the State Government for the development of sports in the state.
