SHILLONG: The son of late EK Mawlong, former Chief Minister, George B Lyngdoh, is all set to lock horns with sitting MLA from Umroi, Ngaitlang Dhar, who is planning to leave Congress in months to come.

Lyngdoh, who is the only Congress party ticket aspirant for Umroi constituency spoke on the lack of infrastructure of the constituency in terms of education and health sector during a meeting held at Labansaro at Umroi to welcome the party workers under the Mahila Umroi Block Congress Committee on Saturday.

Preparing to enter the political arena once again, Lyngdoh left his job as a Joint Mission Director MGNREGS of the State Government. He had contested the 2009 bye-election after his father’s departure but lost by a close margin of 400 votes to Stanlywiss Rymbai who later got defeated by Ngaitlang in 2013.

The meeting was attended by hundreds of women from different localities of Umroi Constituency with the objective to steer Lyngdoh to victory in the 2018 Assembly elections.

Lyngdoh stated that the joining of women at the Block Congress level is a source of inspiration.

Meanwhile, speculations are rife that Ngaitlang Dhar will contest the upcoming elections on National People’s Party (NPP) ticket.
