AGARTALA: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has flayed the Manmohan Singh Government at the Centre saying that ‘administration and corruption’ have become synonymous for the second UPA Government.

Addressing a gathering in Agartala press club last evening on the occasion of release of a complied version of Right To Information (RTI) Act by a media house here, Mr Sarkar rued neither RTI nor Lokpal could be effective to contain corruption in the present administration.

”No act or rule can govern the corruption free system unless the citizens become sensitive and pro-active against all misdeeds and malpractices in the government and administration,” he underlined and added when the entire system became corrupt, how an Act could eliminate it.

Referring to the corruption in past a year, Mr Sarkar said the UPA Govt and Manmohan Singh had been saying so many things, including amendment of RTI Act, to bring so called balance in the system and to ensure prompt service delivery mechanism in the administration but it was not accepted.

”If we consider the history of Sweden that implemented the similar kind of Act in 1776, it showed our failure in the biggest democratic country in the world that we passed RTI Act only in 2005, which helps the citizen judge the transparency in the system within five years and now our Central Govt is really in trouble for corruption,” he added.
