Administration gears up to facilitate safe Diwali in Shillong

SHILLONG: As Shillong   city gears up to celebrate the Diwali on Thursday, the district administration of East Khasi Hills has made elaborative security arrangement to ensure that the festival passes off without any untoward incident.

East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, PS Dkhar said that all the line departments like Meghalaya Fire and Emergency Services and Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) had been alerted and  asked to be on standby.

Dkhar informed that all the police stations in the city had made their own contingency plan and magistrates and police sector officers would be deployed in different parts of the city.

“If there is any requirement or if any emergency arises, the officers will take necessary measures,” he said.

The district administration recently held a meeting with the district police to review the security in view of Diwali celebrations.

People would be allowed to burst crackers till 10 P M, the DC said

Meanwhile, shops selling crackers in the city witnesses huge rush of customers as they have been told to sell their crackers with certain directives and restrictions besides police personnel were also seen conducting checking of necessary permissions in the shops who are selling crackers in the city.
