SHILLONG: UDP MLA from West Shillong Paul Lyngdoh is optimistic that new entrants into state politics, like the People’s Democratic Front (PDF), will not be able to make much impact in the upcoming Assembly elections.
Speaking to media persons here on Thursday after handing over a mortuary van to Meghalaya Hindu Mission, Lyngdoh said the state has seasoned political parties which have matured over the years and these have vote bank in each constituency besides they are entrenched in the soil of Meghalaya politics.
Asserting that PDF is a loose organisation set up by MDCs of KHADC who are part of the ruling coalition, Lyngdoh added that almost all the leaders of PDF have won the elections from different political parties.
“They will not be able to challenge the well-entrenched and well-established political parties in the state,” Lyngdoh said while expressing confidence that regional parties are here to form the new government next year.
The UDP leader also compared the State Congress to a sinking ship by saying when people start jumping off the ship, it is clear that the ship is sinking.
“Those who wanted to survive have already jumped off the ship,” the senior leader told reporters.
