SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has made it clear that Congress would not interfere with police investigation into the arrest of the West Garo Hills Youth Congress Committee leader Bappun A Sangma for his alleged link with the militant outfit Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA).
“The law would take its own course of action. There is no question of the party interfering with the ongoing investigation,” Dr Sangma said on Monday.
Bappun was arrested in Shillong last month along with a GNLA leader Jackiush A Sangma.
Another person arrested alongwith the GNLA militant was reportedly UDP legislator Nimarson Momin’s official driver Harding Marak.
Police recovered a whooping Rs 11.9 lakh from their possession and later arrested three gun-runners from a city hotel.
Bappun A Sangma was inducted into the party fold as the chief organizing secretary on July 2.
The Chief Minister said, “It is very difficult for the party to ascertain the credentials of any person who comes to join the party during recruitment drive.”
