Shandil, others address rally at Mylliem

By Our Reporter

SHILLONG: Congress on Tuesday virtually plunged into election mode with AICC general secretary in-charge, Meghalaya, Dhaniram Shandil and AICC Secretary in charge of Meghalaya Sanjay Bapna holding a massive rally at Mylliem (Sanmer).

“We are already in the battle field,” the two senior Congress leaders said referring to Meghalaya Assembly election due in 2013.

The meeting was also attended by the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, MPCC working president Deborah Marak and local legislator R V Lyngdoh.

Dr Sangma while addressing the gathering informed that he had written a letter to the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh with a request to bridge the developmental gaps and sought to underline a number of projects for the State.

“One by one all the important projects have been sanctioned without delay,” he said adding they were all for us to see — the Shillong Bye pass, the Shillong – Nongstoin road to be named “as a road of integration.”

According to Dr Sangma, ambitious NREGS programme initiated by the government to provide a legal guarantee of 100 days of wage employment in a financial year to every rural household has helped the women.
