SHILLONG: The Civil Society Women Organisation (CSWO) Sabuda circle has requested for a police outpost in the Block-II area of Madan Umwang village in Ri Bhoi.
In a statement on Friday, CSWO president T. Marsharing has urged the Home Minister to set a police outpost in the disputed village.
Earlier, the residents of the border area adjacent to Assam had complained about troubles created by the neighbouring state.
“We would like to urge the government to set up a Meghalaya Police Outpost at Madan Umwang to provide security and protection to the Khasi people living in the area,” the statement said.
CSWO further informed that the Assam government frequently disrupts implementation of schemes funded by the Meghalaya government in the Khasi villages.
Stating one of such instance, CSWO informed that construction of the building for rearing eri worms funded by the Sericulture Department has been disrupted by Assam.
“Recently, the implementation of electricity schemes at Sabuda has also been disrupted by the Assam Government,” it said
