TURA: The Public Health Engineering Department has asked the agitating muster roll workers in Garo Hills to return to work or face action.
The muster roll workers of the PHE department began their cease work on Friday demanding the implementation of long standing dues.
Irked by the development, officials of the department have issued a stern warning to all the agitating workers to report to their duties immediately or face a wage cut. As per the warning, any worker failing to report to duty would be marked absent and their daily wages deducted accordingly.
The additional chief engineer of PHE Zone-II, Tura has in this regard issued an advisory directing the PHE officials officials to take necessary measures to end the protest by the workers.
The threat of action is unlikely to go down well with the hundreds of muster roll workers in the Garo Hills region who say they have been deprived of their dues for years together.
Muster roll workers are denied several government benefits even as they work for measly salaries each month in various departments of the state government. Only recently, the workers of the state power department have raised their voice against lack of benefits from the state.
