SHILLONG: Steel Plant Services Board (SPSB) dominated the proceedings with 16 medals while hosts Meghalaya failed to win any on the second day of the 34th National Junior Archery Championship here on Tuesday.
SPSB lead the medals tally with seven gold, six silver and thrre bronze medals followed by Uttar Pradesh (UP) with one gold, two silver and one bronze medals.
Among the North Eastern States the archers from Assam and Manipur fared well. Assam won one gold and six bronze medals while Manipur have a gold and a silver to their name. O Naobi Chanu won the medal for Manipur in the 40 m Indian Round for Girls on the first day of the event.
Meanwhile, Steel Plant Services Board (SPSB) dominated the Recurve Round for both Boys and Girls.
Sumitra Kumari won SPSB its first gold medal in the 70 m Recurve Round Girls with a total score of 325 points while Rimil of Chattisgarh won the silver with the total score of 313 points. Assam’s Himani Boro won the bronze in the same event.
SPSB’s Seema Verma won two golds for her team in the 70 m and 30 m Recurve Round for Girls with a total score of 331and 346 points respectively while Rimil ensured Chattisgarh its second silver with a total score of 330. SPSB got a bronze in the same event with its archer Sumita Kumari with a total score of 328 points.
Atanu Das won a silver for SPSB in the 70 m Recurve Round while teammate Hurdup Teriya fetched gold in the same event.
Das then won a gold and a silver in the 50 m and 30 m Recurve Rounds respectively. Meanwhile, SPSB Pawan Xalxo won the gold in the 30 m Recurve Round for Boys with total score of 353 points while Assam’s Sanjay Boro won the bronze in the 30 metre Recurve Round with 348 points.
It may be mentioned that this is the fourth time that a national level archery competition has been held in Meghalaya, which is often considered as ‘the home of archery’ due to the popularity of traditional srchery here.
In total 500 participants representing 31 teams from across the country are participating in the event this year.
