‘Scientific capability must to overcome challenges ahead’

SHILLONG: National Institute of Technology (NIT), Meghalaya on Saturday held its 4th Annual Convocation at the Bijni Complex in Laitumkhrah in which 203 students were conferred with degrees.

The students who were conferred degrees include 117 B. Tech students 56 M. Tech students 24 M.Sc. students and 6 Ph. D students.

Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, Chancellor of JNU and member of  NITI Aayog , VK Saraswat, asserted that the nation needed the scientific capabilities that would determine the ability to overcome challenges which lied ahead of us like climate change

Stating that solutions must be found in timely manner, he added that sustainability was an important element of the eco system and focus should shift to minimising use of energy, material and wastage using green and sustainable manufacturing processes.

Director of the institute, B B Biswal while speaking on the occasion said that research was an area which the institute had been focusing since its establishment.

It may be mentioned that the institute presently has 802 students including 10 international students.

Gautam Biswas Director, IIT Guwahati, addressing the gathering, said that knowledge was recognized as the key resources for achieving economic growth and social development and the programme “Make in India” was an initiative to focus on job creation and skill enhancement and it’s a holistic approach to the system of education.

He also urged the students not to get disheartened by the thoughts of success and failure
