BSF marathon to honour martyrs held

SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF) organised a Half Marathon to pay homage to martyrs of Meghalaya and felicitated their families at Mawpat on Saturday.
The event recorded about 600 participants from all walks of life, including athletes, border dwellers, border guards, policemen and senior citizens.
The 21-km run was flagged off by Governor Ganga Prasad from the BSF campus in Mawpat. The route was through Golf link-Mawlai-Garikhana-Rilbong-Civil Hospital-Governor House-Nongmynsong-Iserwat and culminated at Mawpat. HC Anish Thapa from Gorkha Regiment Training Centre (GTC) won the marathon with a timing of 1 hour, 17 minutes and 13 seconds. The first and the second runners up were rifle man Krishna Bahadur Thapa and L/NK Chitra Bahadur Thapa.
The women’s section was dominated by participants of the Meghalaya Police (SF-10). Siba Syngkli (SF-10) was the winner with a timing of 2 hours, 2 minutes and 47 seconds. Amelish Nongrum and Daphira Rani of SF-10) were second and third, respectively. The governor lauded border sentinels for their efforts. He honoured the martyrs by reciting his poems on martyrs. 
Others who attended the event were High Court Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Inspector General of BSF Meghalaya Frontier PK Dubey.
