ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on Thursday called upon the state police department to tighten up its belts and embark on to make Itanagar a crime-free zone.
“Singapore is a mosquito-free zone. Likewise, let’s make Itanagar a crime-free zone,” he said while interacting with top police officers here, official sources informed.
A delegation of top police officials lead by DGP Kanwaljit Deol called on the chief minister and made a detailed power-point presentation on the department, its pending proposals and suggestions to make it more efficient in dealing with the law and order situation within the state.
Tuki, who holds the Home portfolio, reiterated his priority on the over-all law and order situation in the state and assured his cooperation for strengthening the state police force besides providing it with assets as proposed.
On information by the officials, he took cognizance of the hurdles like shortage of manpower, state of the art intelligence network and lack of infrastructure that has hampered effective policing in the state.
Calling upon the police to concentrate more on maintaining law and order within the state, he also sought improved coordination with their counterparts in neighbouring Assam.
Going through the pending proposals submitted by the department and awaiting implementation, Tuki stressed on prioritizing and implementing them phase-wise. “Let’s identify the immediate and urgent requirements of the state police force, which can be approved and implemented immediately,” he asserted.
The Chief Minister also stressed on overhauling of the information gathering network and admitted that, as informed, an amount of Rs 20000 per year for payment to information sources is too meagre.
He asked the officials to prepare a proposal in this regard and put up for immediate approval.
On the request for enhancement of manpower in the department, Tuki directed immediate initiation of the recruitment drive for Tirap and Changlang districts which has already been approved.
As reported Rs 138.95 crore has been sanctioned for the two troubled districts for creation of 11 new police stations. (PTI)
