TURA: The Garo organisation, Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE) has announced that it will oppose the on-going Aadhar enrollment in the state on the grounds that it is violating citizens’ constitutional rights and goes against the Supreme Court of India ruling.
“We are supporting the MPCA in opposing the implementation of Aadhar card because it is being forced on the people residing in the 6th Schedule state like Meghalaya. We are calling upon all citizens to join the opposition to Aadhar enrollment,” said ADE president Dalseng Bira Ch Momin.
The ADE organization has said that authorities are ‘falsely’ attempting to sway people opinion in favour of Aadhar by claiming that it is mandatory to be linked to all aspects of life including PAN, bank account, mobile SIM card among others.
“The Supreme Court of India has in its ruling by Justice J Chelameswar, on August 11th 2015, raised concerns and made it clear that it is not mandatory for social welfare benefits already availed,” stated the ADE leader.
“Such a move to enforce Aadhar into every aspect of one’s life is tantamount to turning a democratic India into a closely monitored police state. Even the biometric identification of citizens is a comprehensive intelligence initiative with financial surveillance at its core,” alleged ADE.
It claimed that the idea behind the system of enrolling every citizen under Aadhar would lead to control and monitor of citizens’ lives, both personal and public. It demanded an end to the alleged forcible enrollment into Aadhar.
