Inter clans soccer tourney from November 1

SHILLONG: The Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya (Dorbar ki Khlieh Nongsynshar ka Ri Hynniewtrep, the Federation of Khasi States, Dorbar ki Dolloi, Sirdarship and Council of Nokma) will host the 3rd Inter-Hima/Elaka-Seng Samla Kur-Knowck out Football tournament- 2017.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, chairman of the Grand Council of Chiefs, John Kharshiing said, “The objective of holding the inter-clan football tournament is to create awareness about the importance of the unique clan system present in the Khasi-Jaintia Hills.”

The football tournament will be kicked-off from November 11 at Smit, Hima Khyrim and he has urged all the clans residing in all the kingdoms/Elaka to send their teams to the football game.

The last date for submission of application form is on November 4. The entry fee is Rs 3500 for those who do not have any write-up about the clan and Rs 2500 for those who have a write-up about the clan.

Kharshiing informed that the prize money is Rs 25000 and Rs 10000 for the winner and the runners up, respectively.

He informed that during the first clan football 2015, a total of 28 clans participated and the Kharbyngar clan was the winner and during the 2nd inter clan football 2016, a total number of 39 clans participated and the winner was the Rynjah clan.
