SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Wednesday said that the operation to rescue PK Boro, BDO of Dadenggre block, is being carried out in a cautious manner so as to ensure complete safety of the abducted official.

“The rescue is being done very cautiously since we do not want to put the life of the officer in danger. We should understand that this matter is sensitive in nature,” Dr Sangma said after a review meeting on law and order which was attended by the Minister and senior officials of the Home department.

While informing that the State Security agencies were monitoring the security operations 24/7, the Chief Minister said, “We are hopeful of positive development towards the safe rescue of the abducted BDO.”

On whether the State Government had any plan to announce ceasefire with the militant group to ensure the safe release of the abducted official, Dr Sangma refrained from giving any direct answer.

“I will respond when we come to that situation. At this moment there’s no such plan,” Dr Sangma said.

Meanwhile, there has been no trace of the BDO even after 16 days of his abduction on November 21.

The GNLA had even issued a 10-day deadline to the State Government on November 23 to immediately halt all operations against the outfit in exchange for the safe release of the official.
