TURA: Primary school teachers from Garo Hills who were appointed on merit basis have expressed disappointment over the court verdict on the education scam saying it is painful and unacceptable to the untainted and genuine candidates.

The recent court verdict on the education scam case had also directed untainted and unblemished teachers to re-appear for a fresh recruitment, which the teachers have refused to accept at the same time appealing for a fresh review.

“The matter has already been investigated and the tainted teachers were identified by the country’s top investigating agency and the state’s High Level Scrutiny Committee (HLSC). So the question of asking untainted teachers to reappear does not arise,” the teachers coming together under the banner of the All Garo Hills Primary School Teachers’ Association (AGHPSTA) said.

Pointing out that tainted teachers have been terminated long before, the association said that it was unfair that clean and untainted teachers were being made to suffer by appearing for the same post which they have been holding for more than seven years.

The association was also irked by the comments of social activities, Agnes Karshiing who said that justice had been served to the common man, soon after the court verdict.

“It is sad that Karshiing has made such a comment. She should have thought about the genuine teachers before making the comment,” the association said.
