TURA: Residents of Rongara in South Garo Hills District are facing communication problems for some time now following damaged sustained to the BSNL tower located in the area during thunderstorms sometime this year.

According to the residents failure to repair the damage caused by lighting to the tower’s receiver by concerned authorities has resulted in communication problems which has persisted for over a month now.

“We have already informed the BSNL head office in Tura. However, no one has come to repair or replace the damaged receiver. We have children studying in Tura and other places and we are unable to contact them as most of the SIM Cards being used here are of the BSNL,” the residents said.

In the absence of service by the BSNL, people have looked to using SIM Cards from neighbouring Bangladesh. However, that too has its drawbacks when the charge per call is taken into account.

“We are able to use Bangladeshi SIM Cards. But the cost is skyrocketing as the only available service is ISD,” the people said.

The residents on Monday made an appeal to officials of the BSNL to repair the damage to the tower and restore communication services so that they are not made to suffer.
