Colombo: The Sri Lankan government has apologised to a Catholic church here after police raided a Mother Teresa charity alleging that it was running a baby farm.
“This is a complex and sensitive problem. On one hand there was the law. But if there were shortcomings in the way the raid was conducted, we need to rectify them,” Keheliya Rambukwella, Minister of Media and government spokesman, said.
“No less than a Cabinet minister has apologised which reflects the government stance on the issue,” Rambukwella said. Cardinal Ranjith had on Saturday vowed to stay away from state functions or state-organised events in protest against the raid.(PTI)
