SHILLONG: Sounder S Cajee has tendered his resignation from BJP but maintained that he would be in the fray for the 2018 Assembly elections.

Cajee, who submitted his resignation letter to state BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh, said he was prompted by unavoidable circumstances to quit the party with effect from November 7.

When contacted, Cajee said, “I am neither an MLA nor an MDC. The party has not even called an application to contest the elections.”

Stating that he has nothing against the party, he said around 250 supporters had a meeting on Saturday and passed a resolution that he should resign from BJP.

It may be recalled that Cajee joined BJP at a formal induction programme held at Assam Club, Laban on May 31 this year. On the same day in which Cajee was inducted into the party, former minister Manas Chaudhuri was welcomed by BJP at a function in Rilbong ground.
