SHILLONG/ TURA/ MAWKYRWAT/ NONGSTOIN: The District Legal Services Authority, organised a motorcycle rally in various parts of the state as part of the inaugural National Legal Services Authority programme on the theme, “connecting to serve”.
In Shillong, Meghalaya High Court Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari flagged off the rally from the premises of U Soso Tham auditorium on Thursday. The ten-day programme being held across the district will culminate on November 18.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, the chief justice said, “Any duty and responsibility related to people at large needs to have the vision to recognise, appreciate and understand the problem of others.”
‘Secondly, you all have the vision to understand and appreciate the requirement of the needy,” he said.
The bikers zoomed their way from the premises of the State Central Library towards Barik, Civil MES junction, Mahari petrol pump, Mawlai Dakbaki, Mawroh junction, Golflink, Demseiniong, MES, Garoline, Fire Brigade, Dhankheti and back to State Central Library. A stunt show was also performed.
The DLSA organised an awareness campaign at Khyndai Lad in the evening where speakers dwelt on the different government schemes.
In Tura, rally was flagged off on on Friday morning at the deputy commissioner’s office. The route for the Rally started from the Tura Deputy Commissioner’s office via Damalgre, Okkapara, Hajongpara, Rangsakona, Garobhada,Mukdangra, Damalgre and back to Tura.
In Mawkyrwat,the rally was flagged off by D Dann district sports officer on Thursday. An awareness programme was conducted at the office of the block development officer Mawkyrwat C& RD Block. Other programmes to be conducted till the 18th November, 2017 include door to door campaign by Para Legal Volunteers, awareness campaign and street play. Further, an assistance helpdesk has been set up at DC Office, South West Khasi Hills District, Mawkyrwat, to assist in Legal Aid matters.
In Nongstoin, the Legal Service Day was observed on Thursday at Tirot Sing Memorial Hall, Pyndengumiong, Mairang. A bike rally was conducted ensuring that the route of the rally passes through most areas inhabited by weaker sections and marginalised sections of society where the bikers distributed pamphlets to villagers.
