Shillong: The Syiem (Chieftain) of Hima Nongspung Peter R Syiemïong has decided to remove three members of the Dorbar Hima on charges of spreading misinformation against him.

The decision to remove the trio was taken by the Dorbar Hima at a Dorbar held at the office of the Syiem on Thursday.

It may be mentioned here the Hynñiewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) recently alleged that the Syiem secretly signed an agreement with the Assam government on December 3 at Jamrigao village, Ri Bhoi for the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). The HANM even demanded removal of Syiemïong as the Syiem of Nongspung.

Syiemïong later found three members of Dorbar — Secretary of the Hima Michael Warjri, Acting Secretary Ekshor Basan, Acting Secretary and Adviser Winstone Syiemiong – were responsible for spreading wrong information.

Sources, meanwhile, informed that the three members were removed because they tried to highlight the agreement the Syiem had ‘secretly’ signed with the Assam Government.

Talking to reporters, Syiem of Hima Nongspung, Peter Syiemïong said “This agreement with the Assam government was signed mainly to bring about development in the Hima with the implementation of the PMGSY and the Syiem and his Dorbar have the right to do so.”

Syiemïong said the signing of this agreement would no way affect the land of the indigenous tribes. “It does not mean that our land will belong to the Assam Government”, Syiem added.

Meanwhile, reacting to the decision of the Dorbar, Michael Warjri said they (the trio) would agitate against the actions of the Syiem.
