SHILLONG: The NGT on Friday took up the matter related to pollution of Wahumkhrah, Umshyrpi and Umiam in response to a case filed by Naba Bhattacharjee.
During the hearing in Kolkata, the NGT took up the report filed by Bhattacharjee in response to its order on October 26.
The NGT, while appreciating the report was critical of the affidavits filed by respondents ( government and others) which it found to be just broad outline of what was intended but failed to deal with the specific issues raised and unresolved till date. Unhappy over the attempt of state government in adopting a casual approach, and not taking concrete steps on each of the issues raised by the applicant, the NGT decided not to close the case after studying the report.
The respondents have been asked to file authentic affidavit on all points raised by the applicant with action taken if any covering all specific issues.
Further, while agreeing to make KHADC and Shillong Cantonment Board parties to the case, the NGT decided to pass orders after studying the replies of state government. The next hearing will be held on December 13.
