AIR plans to introduce HD radio

Shillong: All India Radio (AIR) is planning to introduce HD radio that will enable listeners to opt for programmes in digital format.
This was announced at a seminar on the occasion of Public Service Broadcasting Day and celebration of the 20th anniversary of Prasar Bharati at the State Convention Centre on Saturday.
Director General Fayyaz Sheheryar said AIR is the inheritor of a great legacy. “AIR will introduce HD radio in future. The HD radio provides the platform to listen to programmes in both digital format with less noise and analog with standard sound quality,” he added. Highlighting AIR’s other upgradation plans, Sheheryar said it will soon have its services on Amazon’s Eco Dot in the next three to six months.
AIR is working to provide Virtual Private Network that will provide seamless broadcasting service in any part of the country.
The DG said AIR websites are being developed which will have all the stations across the country incorporated.
The mobile app is being developed to utilise the existing platforms with over 20 live streaming channels.
Speaking about AIR’s reach and impact, the DG pointed out that news bulletin, current affair programmes and other genres of programmes broadcast both in general and special audience segments have been strengthening the country’s democratic fabric.
Among other dignitaries present at the programme organised by AIR Shillong were Desmond L Kharmawphlang, Professor and Head of Cultural and Creative Studies at NEHU, Dr Lalthansangi, Associate Professor in the Department of Education at Government Aizawl College, and Patricia Mukhim.
