GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court on Tuesday rejected a bail application of one of the prime accused in ‘jobs-for-cash’ scam, Rakesh Paul, the former chairman of Assam Public Service Commission (APSC).

The court rejected the bail petition of Paul who has been in judicial custody in connection with the scam that took place during the previous Congress regime, in connection with a separate case related to a bribery allegation registered with Bhangagarh Police Station here.

Paul was appointed first a member of the APSC  in 2008 and then a full-fledged chairman of the commission in 2013 by the previous Congress government headed by Tarun Gogoi. He was formerly a lesser known advocate  and a notary officer  before being picked as a member of the APSC.

Meanwhile, Assam Police have issued look out notice against two absconding Assam Civil Service (ACS)  officers, Rumi Saikia and Nishamoni Deka and one Assam Police Service  (APS) officer Rakesh Gupta who are accused in the ‘jobs-for-cash’ scam.

Twenty-two such accused official have already been arrested by police investigating into the scam after receiving the forensic report of their answer scripts and hand writing. These officers were allegedly provided duplicate answer scripts to clear the APSC written recruitment test held in 2013 after they had paid huge amount of money to buy jobs.

Police informed that more such arrests were likely after receipt of forensic test reports of handwriting samples of some more such officers.
