SHILLONG: The Congress will review the actions of its MLA Prestone Tynsong who attended an NPP meeting Sohryngkham recently.
The statement came from party spokesperson and Cabinet Minister Ronnie V Lyngdoh on Tuesday after Tynsong made it clear that he would resign from the Congress before the Legislative Assembly session because he “does not have faith in the leadership of Mukul Sangma any more”.
Lyngdoh said no one was above the party and one man’s opinion was irrelevant.
“The matter has to be reviewed by the party and if necessary, action will be taken against him,” the minister added.
The Congress leader taunted Tynsong saying the latter was happy when he was in the Mukul Sangma Cabinet but became sad after he was dropped.
“It is strange that when he was in the Cabinet he did not raise any objections against the present government and if he had lost faith in the leadership, he should have stepped down earlier,” Lyngdoh added.
Asked whether the exodus of senior leaders would affect the party’s performance in the upcoming elections, Lyngdoh said the Congress is the only party in which candidates are fighting for tickets whereas no other party is witnessing such fights for the ticket.
“If other sitting Congress MLAs resign then it’s better for the party as we will not have dissenting people within the party and the Congress will become even stronger,” he added.
The senior Congress leader further expressed confidence that the party, which had gone through the thick and thin earlier too, will come back strongly in Meghalaya.
