KSU members held in Sohra for blackening ‘Cherrapunjee’

SHILLONG: Six Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) members were detained in Sohra on Wednesday afternoon after they had sprayed Black Color over the signboards in Sohra post Office.

Police said that the KSU members were irked as the notice board and signboards in Sohra Post Office were named as “Cherrapunjee” instead of “Sohra”.

The SDPO Sohra, Ian Swer informed that six KSU members- Shemphrang Synrem (28), Vicky Mawnai (26), Mesadap B Skhankill (19), Meban Raphang Nongrum (20), NambhaKupar Syiemlieh (19 and Patrick L Nongriat (19) had entered the Sohra post office and sprayed black colour on the notice board and sign boards where the name “Cherrapunjee” was mentioned.

Swer informed that KSU members also sprayed black colour in resorts and shops around Sohra area.

On Receipt of the information, police caught all of them and they were detained at Sohra police Station.

A written complaint   has been received from Post Master of Sohra Post Office and Case has been registered.

Sohra police also took inquired from SDO(Civil) Sohra if there is any order about renaming the signboards from Cherrapunjee to Sohra but it was informed that the matter was being looked into.
