SARAS fair held in city to promote rural artisans on 9 states

SHILLONG: The second edition of SARAS-Sale of Articles by Rural Artisans, a fair that seeks to provide market access to Self Help groups from across the state, was held at Madan Iewrynghep, Laitumkhrah on Tuesday.

The fair is funded by the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD) in collaboration with state governments. Self Help Groups (SHGs) from nine states across India also made their way to the fair to display their products as well as exchange ideas with fellow SHGs in the state.

The nine participating states are Tripura, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka and West Bengal.

Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, Minister of PWD (Building), Ampareen Lyngdoh lauded the SHGs for being a platform of women empowerment by making them financially independent.
