SHILLONG: The ongoing Socio Economic and Caste Census (SECC), 2011 which kicked off on December 8 in the city by the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) will have to be completed by January 31, 2012. Informing this, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), SMB said that the same has to be submitted to the Centre, thereafter.
“This is in continuation to the Census of India, 2011. After the census the SECC follows,” said the CEO adding that the SMB is in charge of city as the areas falls under its jurisdiction. “It is going on all over the state and in the rural areas the block offices are involved in the survey,” he said. The Principal Officer, SECC-2011, East Khasi Hills District informed that the enumeration has commenced in the areas of Umpling, Mawpat, Nongmynsong, Lawsohtun, Nongkseh, Umlyngka, Mawlai, Pynthormkhrah, Cantonment Board and Mawphlang Block. The enumeration officials of SECC-2011 are visiting each and every household to conduct the survey and it is also assisted by the local headmen of the areas under survey.
The Principal Officer has requested every household to kindly cooperate with the enumerators and data entry operators for the SECC 2011 as they visit their houses. The enumerators and data entry operators can be easily identified by the identity card issued by the competent authority.
The CEO further said that the census will determine the statistics of citizens, such occupation, education activities etc. The Centre has earlier said that the SECC, 2011 will also be utilized for identifying beneficiaries of various schemes. The SECC, 2011 is carried out by the State Government with the financial and technical support of the Government of India.
