Workshop discusses semester system in colleges

 SHILLONG: Sankardev College as part of its ongoing year long Golden Jubilee celebrations, organized a one day workshop on “Introduction of semester system in colleges’’at the Shillong Club on Saturday.

Teachers representing almost all the colleges of Shillong including the colleges from other districts participated in the workshop.

Prof K Ismail, Controller of Examinations, NEHU, Prof Manorama Sharma, Dept of History, NEHU and Prof B B P Gupta, Dept of Zoology, NEHU were the resource persons who dwelt at length on the semester system and its related effects on the present system of higher education.

Their discourses were a source of great knowledge and information on the much talked about subject today in all Colleges.

They appreciated the initiative efforts of Sankardev College who organized this very important workshop so as to provide a forum and a platform for college teachers to voice their opinions and express their concerns.

The workshop also discussed the modalities regarding the implementation of this system by the University which is expected to be effective from July 2012.

The participants discussed about the implications of the new system on the functioning of the Colleges, the system of Examination to be followed, the teacher student ratio, course content and status of the morning shift in the new system, amongst other issues involved.

The workshop was also of the opinion that the implementation of the semester system should take into account the views and interests of all major stakeholders.

Earlier D Dkhar, Principal Sankardev College, while welcoming the Participants also briefed about the theme and purpose of the workshop.
