SHILLONG: United Democratic Party secretary, Jemino Mawthoh slammed the state government over the delay in release of the MLA scheme 2017-2018 asserting that it is akin to political manipulation.
“This is akin to political manipulation on the part of the state government and we express our disappointment. As in the previous years, such a thing has not happened,” he told reporters.
He questioned the reason why chief minister Mukul Sangma withheld the scheme for a long time and pointed out that the state level committee has not convened any meeting in this regard so far.
“From the part of the MLAs, we are surprised as to why the state government has not released the MLA scheme 2017-2018 .We have submitted several schemes for the past three-four months,” he said.
“Election is very near. When the election dates are announced and after the Election Commission of India issues a notification, we cannot implement the MLA scheme,” he added.
Mawthoh further said the MLA scheme should have been released at an early date, especially during the election year, so that schemes can be implemented.
“There is uncertainty whether the MLA scheme 2017-18 can be implemented within the timeframe before the elections,” he said, adding that it has affected many constituencies.
