Kathmandu: A top Maoist leader has demanded Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal’s resignation to pave the way for the formation of a new government on the basis of national consensus.

UCPN (Maoist) Vice Chairman Baburam Bhattarai has asked Prime Minister Khanal to immediately resign so that a national consensus government can be formed.

Speaking at a programme, the moderate Maoist leader said early resignation by the prime minister will pave the way for the formation of a national unity government to expedite peace process and constitution drafting.

“The prime minister himself had signed the five-point agreement that clearly demands his resignation for the formation of a national consensus government,” Bhattarai pointed out.

He asked the prime minister to keep his words to resolve the current political impasse. (PTI)
