TURA: Two vegetable sellers from North Garo Hills District who had gone by train to Guwahati to sell their wares have gone missing, according to police. Although the two went missing on Friday, the matter was reported to the police by the family members only on Saturday evening.
The two victims are Karhen Sangma (50), son of Etbinal Momin and Jebil Sangma (35), son of Artharson Marak. Both hail from Bolmedang Village under Kharkutta Police Station of the district.
Quoting relatives, police informed that the duo had boarded a train bound for Guwahati at Dudhnoi on Friday and reached their destination safely. Relatives also informed police that they had got in touch with the missing duo who informed them that sale had been completed and they would be returning home soon. It was only when they failed to return by midnight that they realized that something was wrong.
The nature of the case is such that police have no clue where to begin. It is not known whether the two boarded the train for their return journey and went missing somewhere along the way.
“The train from Guwahati usually returns by 10 pm. Both the wives of the victims had gone to bed thinking they would return. However, when they did not return even by midnight they realized that something had happened as attempts to contact them on the phone also failed,” Superintendent of Police (SP) in-charge, J F K Marak said.
According to Marak, a case has been filed in this regard and investigation is on.
