MAWKYRWAT: A herd of wild elephants created havoc at 25th Mile near Ranikor in South West Khasi Hills on Saturday night destroying one house as well as crops.
The village headman, B. Wahlang, said the herd entered the village around 11 pm on Saturday and destroyed the house and crops belonging to Tarbit Nonglang. “The wild elephants also destroyed the crops of Diw Pyngrope. The damage of crops and property of others was minimal,” said Wahlang.
The locals, however, chased the jumbos by making noises. Wahlang also added that people of the village are concerned about the incident and urged the wildlife office to take measures to prevent loss to property and life. No injuries were reported.
