“Because we did not choose” screening on Dec 8

SHILLONG: The First World War happened over a hundred years ago and to showcase the involvement of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo labourers in WW I, a documentary film, “Because we did not choose”, will be screened on December 8 at Khasi National Dorbar Hall, Mawkhar.

Addressing the press on Thursday, the director of the 92 – minute documentary film, Wanphrang K. Diengdoh, said, “It took four years to make the film. I’ve researched from various documents outside the country as well.”

He informed that he did his research from the documents available in British libraries, from the archive in New Delhi, Kolkata, Wales, France and even from private collections as well.

Referring to the historical importance of the movie, Diengdoh said, “A signature campaign will be held for the inclusion of the history of 26th Khasi Labor Corps in the School and College curriculum.”

In this connection, he has also submitted a petition to the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.
