NONGPOH: Differently-abled persons in Ri Bhoi took out a rally on Sunday demanding equal rights.
The rally was part of the programme organised by the Association of Persons with Disabilities, Ri Bhoi, to mark World Disabled Day.
Ronald Malai, president of the association, said, “We celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities to voice our demand that we too should also get equal rights as guaranteed by the Constitution.”
“Being persons with disabilities we don’t need sympathy and charity but all we need is that the society and the government ensure equal rights for us,” he added.
Nongpoh MDC Rona Khymdeit, who was the chief guest, said the society should support the differently-abled.
The association also organised various sports events on the occasion.
