SHILLONG: Four MLAs will share the dais with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his public rally organised by BJP at Polo Grounds on Saturday.
The legislators are Independents Robinus Syngkon and Justine Dkhar, and AL Hek (Congress) and Sanbor Shullai (NCP).
Speaking to The Shillong Times, state BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh said on Monday that he had already spoken to these legislators and they accepted the verbal invitation to share the dais with the Prime Minister before they formally join BJP.
“They are joining BJP and a formal entry to the party will be done at a later stage due to certain technicalities,” Lyngdoh said.
The state BJP leader said the party would try to get some more MLAs to its fold.
Earlier in August this year, Dkhar representing Khliehriat and Syngkon from Mookaiaw, had met the BJP leaders, including party president Amit Shah, in Delhi and expressed their desire to join the saffron party.
Hek, representing Pynthorumkhrah constituency, was keen to return to BJP citing that it was his parental party.
Hek had contested and won on BJP ticket in 1998, 2003 and 2008 polls and he joined the Congress in July 2009. Later in 2013, he contested from the Congress and won the seat.
However, for NCP state president Shullai, this will be his first entry.
There were media reports that Shullai, currently representing South Shillong constituency, was keen to join the saffron party though he had denied the move in the past.
During the recent visit of BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav to Shillong, questions were raised after the party claimed to have roped in MLAs of “good image”.
