TURA: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Central Executive Committee (CEC) on Tuesday strongly condemned the recent assault on a student from Tura by his neighbors at Phagwara in Punjab resulting in his death.

The 21-year-old boy from Tura’s Nakham Bazar, Ashish Prasad, who passed out from the prestigious Sherwood School Tura with distinction in the high school leaving certificate examination in 2012 conducted by Meghalaya Board of Secondary Education (MBoSE), was pursuing his mechanical engineering at Lovely Professional University at Phagwara Punjab.

On December 7, Prasad was allegedly assaulted by his neighbours over birthday celebrations in his house leading to his death.

The GSU while strongly condemning the incident said, “This is not the first case of assault on students belonging to the North East. In the past also, there have been several cases where students from the region have been bullied or manhandled. We strongly condemn the incident and urged students as well citizens to protest against it”.

The union also offered condolences to the bereaved family members of the victim and prayed for strength to overcome their grief.
