RESUBELPARA: The Sordar of Mongre Songgital in North Garo Hills has asked the elementary education officer of Goalpara in Assam to close down the lower primary school in the village.
The Sordar recently sent a notice to the Goalpara official for running a school on Meghalaya territory. Copies of the notice were forwarded to the chief Secretaries and the director generals of both the states.
The notice was sent after the deputy commissioner and the SP could not take action even a year after inspection.
However, the conflict runs deep and villagers are the victims of the border dispute between the two states.
The Assam government is extending support for development works and the North Garo Hills administration has remained a silent spectator.
Many villagers of Mongre Songgital have dual EPICs. A section of them also support Assam’s interference.
